It changes from heptahydrate to tetrahydrate at 56.6 ℃, monohydrate at 64 ℃ and anhydrous at 300 ℃. It decomposes when the temperature continues to rise. Soluble in water and corrosive. It absorbs moisture in humid air and is oxidized to rust color by air.

Production mode: the byproduct in the production of titanium dioxide from ilmenite.
